This tip was given to me by one of the sales assistants at Michael Hill Jeweller.
It’s brilliant!
- Lectric Soda Crystals
- Aluminium Foil
- Soft Bristle Toothbrush
- 2 bowls (eg. cereal bowls)
- Boiled water
- Soapy water
Steps:
- Line the inside of a bowl with the aluminium foil
- Put two tsps of lectric soda crystals into lined bowl
- Pour boiled water into the lined bowl (fill half way)
- Give the water a quick mix. It should start steaming straight away
- Put jewellery into the steaming water and let them sit for about 10 seconds. *Some may need 10 seconds. Others may need 20 seconds
- While this is happening, fill other bowl with warm soapy water
- Remove jewellery after required time and put into the soapy water
- Give jewellery a scrub with the toothbrush to remove excess dirt
- Finally, rinse off the jewellery in warm water to remove the soap
- Dry and wear!
I cleaned yellow gold, white gold, silver, Tiffany and Co. jewellery, Swarovski jewellery, diamonds, sapphires and amethyst.
I wouldn’t recommend this for cheap silver jewellery.
The before and after picture is below. It’s hard to capture it well but now this ring is sparkling like it’s brand new.
I wish I took a photo of my swarovski crystal ring before and after because it came up beautifully.
